A
pharmaceutical
preparation of insulin may contain Zn(II) ion
(red
spheres). Zinc causes insulin molecules to
clump together. Why
would a pharmaceutical company want to add zinc to
insulin?
Molecular rendering software, available on
the web for free, can help students answer this kind of inquiry
question. It's one of several tools that can be made available to high school students
to help them explore molecular structure. |
 | Post-baccalaureate students have two
options: Pursue a second B.S. degree (not many do this) or
pursue entitlement only. The entitlement only option
typically requires four
semesters of professional education coursework. Candidates that already
hold a bachelors degrees are no longer required to meet state general education requirements for teacher education.
As of May 1, 2000, the State Board eliminated these requirements.
However, NSTA
standards for teacher preparation must still be satisfied. Click
here for a list of course requirements. |

Contact:
 | After formal admission to NIU,
candidates must schedule an
appointment with the Teacher Certification Coordinator
for Chemistry
to formally register for the initial
teacher certification program and, if necessary, to declare a major. The
chemistry coordinator and student will then design
a tentative plan of study. |
